Ethan Saake is no stranger to Jazz St. Louis. His relationship with the organization is deeply intertwined, marked by significant milestones and personal triumphs. From a dedicated student in the JazzU program to his subsequent role as an intern with the education department, Saake has consistently demonstrated his dedication to the organization. His path took an unexpected turn when he was diagnosed with cancer at the end of his junior year in high school, and had to take a step back from JazzU as well as other musical pursuits. Now, fully cancer-free and brimming with renewed energy, Saake is poised to make his inaugural debut as a bandleader on July 11, marking a triumphant return to the Jazz St. Louis stage.

This performance not only signifies a significant milestone in Saake’s musical journey but also serves as a testament to his resilience and unwavering dedication to his craft. Saake will be accompanied by a remarkable ensemble of close friends, including Nick Alcorn and Mike Neu on saxophone, Nick Ayala on guitar, Mike Owens on bass, and Nathan Rauscher on drums. This setlist will include a mix of covers, ranging from upbeat tunes to more reflective and melancholic pieces, offering a diverse range of sounds, moods, and emotions that reflect Saake’s growth over recent years.
