Grammy-nominated music educator, saxophonist, and composer Harvey Lockhart is set to grace the stage at Jazz St. Louis for an inspiring series of performances that captures his dedication to teaching, performing, and mentoring. The dynamic musician frequently dazzles audiences across the region with his exceptional quartet and as a member of the Jazz St. Louis Big Band.
As an educator, Lockhart recognizes the transformative power of music education and is deeply committed to providing enthusiastic young musicians with access to learning opportunities. He spearheaded the nonprofit organization HEAL Center for the Arts, which is a multi-disciplinary center of music that provides arts education programs to foster a rich, diverse cultural perspective of the arts into St. Louis school systems. Throughout his illustrious career, Lockhart has had the privilege of collaborating and sharing the stage with an array of esteemed artists, including Melton Mustafa, Wycliffe Gordon, Darryl Reeves, Russell Gunn, Lewis Nash, Curtis Fuller, Reggie Thomas, and Marilyne Maye, among others. These experiences reinforced his belief in the importance of students engaging directly with professional musicians. As a result, Lockhart forged partnerships through HEAL Center for the Arts, enabling his students to attend concerts and masterclasses led by prominent musicians and educators from around the world.
